Working Wardrobe: Black Pants

I love black pants.

I love comfortable pants (especially with elastic waistbands!)

I love making outfit decisions EASY.

Because of these three things, I have compiled five outfits that are comfortable, versatile, and black! I am a big believer in finding staple pieces that can be styled in many different ways. This helps with decision fatigue and your budget! That’s why I gravitate to black - it can be so versatile. I have five pairs of black pants that I really love right now. I have styled each pair so you can see how you can take a staple item, like black pants and create casual and professional outfits. You will see that the shoes and accessories stay the same across the outfits. You can definitely spice up your staple pieces and outfits with different accessories.


I hope this inspires you to find those comfortable staple items that can be styled in many different ways. It doesn’t have to be black pants. Maybe it’s jeans, a blazer, or a white blouse. When you pick pieces that are comfortable and versatile, you can then purchase more trendier items to pair with them.


Outfit 1 | Skinny Cropped Pants + Boss Lady Blazer

I like these pants so much that I have purchased them twice! The color does fade after awhile but they are a good price point, so that’s not a problem. They have a thin elastic waistband and are made with a lightweight twill stretch fabric. Great for spring and summer!


Fit: Runs Small. Can loose their shape in the butt after wearing all day. They are tapered and fitted at the ankle.

Outfit 2 | Knit Straight Pants + Tunic Black Blouse

These pants are made with a soft thick knit fabric. They have an elastic waistband and fit straight and loose in the leg. There is a seam down the front of the leg that makes them look more professional. These will not suck you in like some of the other pants in this blog post. Perfect for those days that you need a little more comfort and ease!


Fit: True to size. Looser, more forgiving fit.

Fabric: Soft thick knit fabric


Outfit 3 | Best Knit Leggings + Snakeskin Vest

These are my new favorite leggings. They have a wider waistband and thick elastic fabric. They squeeze you in a little which is good! They have pockets on the sides that are deep enough for your phone. I wear these on photoshoot days!


Fit: True to size

Fabric: Thick stretch fabric - no sheer areas


Outfit 4 | Black Jeggings + White Button Down

I have a few pairs of Mud Pie Jeggings. Highly recommend! The wash on these are intentionally faded for a more casual look. These black jean-like leggings have real back pockets and look like real jeans.


Fit: Size down. These fit a little looser in the waist and skinny through the legs.

Fabric: Cotton Twill + Spandex


Outfit 5 | Spanx Pants + Layered Vest + Blouse


I love Spanx pants and leggings. I plan to purchase a few more of their styles this year. I like this pair because it has faux back pockets and a seam down the back of the pant which elongates the leg. There is a tummy control panel in these pants and the fabric is thick and elastic. Definitely holds you in!


Fit: True to size. Fitted in the waist with tummy control and semi-fitted through the legs. Might want to size up for the waist area.

Fabric: Thick and elastic - the color does not fade!
