Our team is fully remote and I have worked from home for almost 5 years! We have found ways to make it productive and positive. Here are 5 things that will help you love your home office.
CANDLES
All of us love candles. They help with the dog smell and help our working atmosphere feel more inspired. We know when you work and live in the same space day after day, you need those simple extra items to keep you focused, inspired and positive. Candles do that for us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are our favorite brands right now:
Auburn Candle Company Magnolia Scent OR make your town scent (so cool!)
Magnolia From Target Poppy Scent
Bath & Body Works aromatherapy candles (eucalyptus mint is good for stinky bathrooms 😉)
Great Bear Wax Co Forest Scent
FLOWERS
I am a flower lover. 🌸
For the last couple of months, I have gone to Kroger and picked out flowers for about $10 to brighten my office desk. It’s small and simple, but it inspires me and makes the 10-12 hour days in my home office a little prettier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀
Because this has been such a blessing for me, here are some ideas for you and your team:
If you work alone, fill your space with things that inspire you.
If you have a team, send flowers to your team on special days or accomplishments to keep them motivated.
If your team is coming back to the office, consider supporting a local florist (who has lost all of their events this summer) by ordering weekly flowers for the office.
SNACKS
Have you heard of the “Quarantine 19”? It’s so easy to overeat or eat too frequently when you office in near your kitchen. We have some tips and healthy snacks to share to help with those cravings and munchies.
Snack Tips:
1. We recommend creating a snack basket for your home office or kitchen counter for easy access. This reduces wasted time finding a snack, mindless snacking, and disruptions from your kids who want a snack.
2. Pick items that come in pre-packaged portions or create portion control ziplock bags on Sunday evening.
Here is a list of our favorite snacks right now:
1. Peanut butter filled pretzels
2. Honey Roasted Cashews from Target Good & Gather
3. Angies Boom Chicka Pop 🍿
4. Sweet Potato Tortilla chips with black bean dip
5. Pita bread with hummus
6. 🍉 watermelon
7. 🍊 clementines
8. Trail mix
9. Perfect Bar Protein Bar
10. String Cheese and Almonds
WORDS
Motivation and positivity can be hard to sustain when working from home. I need reminders. I need to surround myself with encouragement when I don’t have others to encourage me. We have cards on our desks and hanging on the wall to keep us going. Pick words or quotes that mean the most to you when you are the most stressed, tired, or unmotivated.
RULES
Candles, flowers, snacks, and words are great but you also have to create structure in order to be productive. We created a blog post that covers the 5 Ways We Create a Productive Space. Everyone works differently but hopefully, this will inspire you to create a space and rules that work for you (while you work!).
